Esse rotacvecta e para barcos a motor!
I want to install a wind system on my mast and I just saw this (new ?) Raymarine ST40 wind system.
http://www.cactusnav.com/product_inf...roducts_id=128
The price looks good, but the "Rotaveta" speed/direction mast unit is very weird...
Anyone has some experience with this version?
My other (budget) options are the ugly, cheap looking NASA NMEA unit
http://www.cactusnav.com/product_inf...oducts_id=7116
Or this one (which has a terrible screen)
http://www.cactusnav.com/product_inf...roducts_id=696
Is there any other choice below 300€?

Rocinante

I can get it for you

I have bought a lot of stuff from these people, if you call they give you excellent prices

Alex, thanks for the offer!!
But the first link you sent me is the ST40 i was talking about... it comes with the "Rotavecta" wind transducer...
The ST60 is $500, but that's the display only... the complete system costs $800, which is over my budget...
I know
I sent other suppliers
Check above
Call or email Soneset, they can make a package with a ST60 rotavecta and a st40 display
Alex
The ST60 wind transducer does not seem to be compatible with the ST40... am I missing something?
or maybe I am missing something..I thought they are comaptible
Please send a pm to Sailingdog, he can find out for you.
Also considering how you sail and when, look at Tac Tic
Alex
Alex -- I don't believe this sensor is for motor boats only.
I am guessing that the little tab on one of the anemometer cups gives the rotation an aperiodic motion which is decomposed into wind direction and velocity by the electronics at deck level.
Sounds pretty clever IMHO
tachyon
Fluctuat nec mergitur
That was my thought, but as you take advantage of that effect, you might loose some precision, so I was asking if anyone had some experience with it.
I think that the ST40 with RotaVecta is a general purpose wind system, while the ST60 with Rotavecta is targeted to powerboats... sounds weird, but that is what Raymarine site says...
NO
ST60 IS for sailboats..Look at the display!!
What they do is they have a rotor for sailboats and one for power boats..
This one below is for power boats it's called Rotavecta vomit thing for powerboaters
This one is the one for sailboats..and its simply called a wind transducer...
trust me on this one, ok??
Sailboats need accurate apparent and true wind indications...that first misfit rotavecta is for power boats because apparent is allays from the nose...or from the gas tank!! They , powerboaters, don't even know what apparent wind is, its one more button....for them a reach is something you do to get a beer...
SAILBOATS NEED the second model...
nothing is free..sailboat parts cost money..
Compra la o ST60 porque o outro e uma merda!!

Alex, take a look at these 3 pages:
ST60 with Rotavane for powerboats, as you said
http://www.raymarine.com/ProductDeta...9&PRODUCT=3440
ST40 with Rotavane for powerboats (at least in the image), as you said
http://www.raymarine.com/ProductDeta...28&PRODUCT=425
The same as before, but in Raymarine's EU page... with a sailboat in the background...
http://www.raymarine.eu/products/ins...s/wind/e22047/
Maybe the Rotavecta is not considered good enough for ST60 sailboat... I think I'm going to email Raymarine...
Okokok...
But Raymarine's doesn't state that anywhere (for the ST40 bundle) and the price was just too appealing... (quase que caía na "esparrela")... too good to be true...
I want to improve my boat a lot on January break and I'm already spending big bucks on the essential stuff, so I did not want to spend a lot on the wind system.
a good wind system is better than any other thing you buy for the boat..and the most useful system..that is why EVERYONE has it..
I'd rather spend money on a good ST60 than on cushions, plates, paint, fender covers, sail covers or food....or even bilhetes pro Benfica!!!
Toma la..ve este modelo da tacktick
Bom e de facil instalacao, sem fios!!
Tacktick for Cruising Yachts
Alex, I recently found out that my boat has not bilge pump, the VHF was not connected to the mast antena, my main sail needs to be repaired, the block that tunes the backstay is made of wood and is breaking and the one of the mainsail is jammed. The gasoline tank has a crack, the shroulds connection with the deck need to be replaced and the toilet is not working properly...
I've seen the Tak Tik before. What do you think of the entry level kit (T033)?
I've noticed that it pays off to buy in UK instead of the US... that Tak Tik costs 480€ bought in US and 433€ in the UK... and I can get the VAT out![]()
tell you what...Fix the sails..the shrouds..the blocks..the bilge pump..the head..the engine..and then the tank...in this order of priority
Tie 2 fitas de seda to the shrouds (brandais)....and go velejar....
After tudo reparado, come back here and pensa gastar massa only after all important coisas are arranjadas....
nao gastes massa no ST entao...
Alex
e podes falar Tuga comigo....se eles nao perceberem, que comprem um dicionario!!!
The ST60 Plus Wind System is for Sailboats .... ST60 Plus Wind Vane System with short arm wind vane transducer
ST60 Plus Wind System with Rotovecta ..... ST60 Plus Wind System with Rotavecta wind transducer and 30M cable. Recommended for power boat applications

ST 40 systems are old school - that is why they are so cheap. ST 60 has NMEA interface applications still valid. Anyone try to call Raymarine stateside lately for customer service?
It's easier to seek forgiveness than to ask for permission.
